My Daily Work

I work with abused children. More truthfully, I work with families of abused children. Some people ask how I can do that or wonder at how hard it must be. The truth is it's not hard. It's an honor. To look into a parent's eye and say, "You can do this. You can re-learn how to parent."

Over 95% of my cases live below the poverty line. Most of the problem starts with lack of success in the education system. Generations of lack of success in the education system. That is not to blame the education system. That is to say that our society makes it very difficult for people to succeed who do not have certaqin genetic gifts or who have not been taught how to learn at home. I don't think most people who I meet who are poor are lazy. They are simply overwhelmed. When you here about child abuse on the news you think of mean, hateful parents. In my experience it is people who love their kids but are overwhelmed and unaware. These people can be helped and I believe it is our job as a society to find a way to find those individual families and get help to them.

This is not my typical tap-dancing, ha-ha post. Just a real sample of my daily life.
